Texas Hold'em Strategy - The Nuts

Are you one of these players who bets only when they have the nuts?  I hope not.

If you are, you will find it very difficult to win on a consistent basis. Let's say you're the small blind and a few of your opponents try to limp in before the flop. You look at your 2 down cards, which are AK of spades. You like what you see so you throw out a $25 bet that only Josh calls.

The flop hits 7,3,J with no spades.

The action is on you to act first with your ace high. What do you do here? Should you check and see what Josh does? No way!
You have to fire out another bet. You cannot show weakness by checking.

So you do. You fire out a $50 bet and Josh folds. You have to take the chance that Josh didn't hit either. You would be surprised at how many times you can do this over the course of a game and rake a decent pot.

Sure, there are going to be times that Josh is sitting on AJ and will call or re-raise your post flop bet.
If this happens, then you slow it down by checking the turn card if it doesn't help your hand.

When you make a pre-flop then a post-flop raise, your opponent must put you on a strong hand.

If they didn't hit their hand they will fold when you come out firing for the second time after the flop.

Just remember that you must pick your spots in making this post-flop raise.

Let's say you're small blind and dealt big slick. You fire a $25 bet that 4 players call. The flop hits 7,3,J and the action is to you.

In this situation there is no way you can fire out another bet. Chances are that one of the 4 callers hit their hand.

Here you can't take the chance of betting. This is a pot that you're probably not going to be able to steal.

Heads up action is the best situation to use the pre-flop/post-flop strategy.

If you follow this betting pattern when heads up or with maybe two callers, you will win a few extra pots every
night and will develop that aggressive player reputation that you need to be a winner.
